Skincare FAQ: Your Most Common Questions Answered
Here are the most frequent questions we receive through our customer service, with clear, jargon-free answers.
In what order should I apply my skincare products?
The general rule is to apply the thinnest textures first, followed by the richest. A typical order for your morning routine:
- Cleanser
- Serum (targeted active)
- Eye cream (if used)
- Moisturizer
- Sunscreen
In the evening, the order is similar, without the sunscreen step, and possibly with an oil as the last step to seal in hydration.
How long before I see results?
This depends on the active ingredient and the goal. For hydration (hyaluronic acid), the effect is almost immediate. For cell renewal (retinol, glycolic acid), it generally takes 4 to 8 weeks of regular use to observe visible changes in texture or wrinkles. Patience and consistency are essential: an active ingredient used irregularly will never achieve its full potential.
Can I use several active ingredients at the same time?
Some combinations work very well (niacinamide + hyaluronic acid), while others require caution (retinol + glycolic acid, which can over-irritate the skin). If in doubt, introduce one new active ingredient at a time and space its use from another powerful active (for example, retinol in the evening, vitamin C in the morning).
How do I know if a product is too strong for my skin?
Signs of irritation include: persistent redness, burning sensation, excessive flaking, or discomfort that lasts more than a few minutes after application. If you observe these signs, space out applications, or temporarily stop using the product until your skin rebalances.
Do I really need to use sunscreen every day, even in winter or in the city?
Yes. UVA rays, responsible for skin aging, are present all year round, even on cloudy days, and pass through windows. This is particularly important if you use active ingredients like retinol or exfoliating acids, which increase skin photosensitivity.
Do my products have an expiry date after opening?
Yes, most cosmetics display a "PAO" (Period After Opening) symbol — an open jar with a number of months indicated (e.g., 12M for 12 months). After this period, the efficacy and stability of the product are no longer guaranteed.
How do I know if a product is certified compliant with European standards?
Any cosmetic product legally sold in the European Union must be notified on the CPNP portal and comply with the European Cosmetics Regulation. At Skinovia, this is a non-negotiable prerequisite for every item in our catalog.
Can I return a product if I change my mind?
Return conditions are detailed in our returns policy. Please consult this page or contact our customer service for any specific questions regarding your order.
